The news was marked by the general election in Nigeria which saw the victory of the APC candidate, Bola Tinubu. Observers and the opposition raised the risk of irregularities in the election. Peter Obi also won the election in Plateau State.
The monitoring group Gender and Election Watch (GEW) said the election was largely peaceful and praised the increased participation of women. However, slow transmission of results and delays in opening polling stations were complained about. In this context, the organisation Network For Peace warned against misinformation and fake news on social networks, a Catholic priest urged Nigerians to pray during this Lenten period for a peaceful electoral and post-electoral environment with leaders who act as shepherds. Presidential candidates have also called for an inspection of the polls due to alleged irregularities. Peter Obi s’impose dans l’État du Plateau
La Commission électorale indépendante a déclaré Peter Obi, candidat du Parti travailliste, vainqueur dans l’État du Plateau. Il s’est imposé dans la plupart des zones de gouvernement local (LGA), parfois avec des écarts importants. Pour la ville de Jos, il a gagné non seulement à Jos Sud (habituellement considéré comme district chrétien) avec plus de 100 000 voix d’avance, mais aussi à Jos North (habituellement considéré comme district musulman) avec plus de 5 000 voix d’avance. L’État du Plateau fait face à des conflits interreligieux récurrents depuis deux décennies. Il a fait face à des violences préélectorales avec une forte inquiétude liée au « Muslim-Muslim ticket ». La victoire significative d’Obi semble confirmer le discrédit de l’APC aux yeux des votants de Plateau, ce qui remet en cause la légitimité du Gouverneur Lalong, chef de campagne de l’APC pour cette élection.

Obi wins in Plateau State
The INEC declared that Peter Obi from Labour Party won the election in Plateau State. He won in most LGAs of the State, sometimes with very important gaps. According to the city of Jos, he not only won with almost one hundred thousand votes in Jos South (often considered the Christian part of the city) but also in Jos North (often considered the Muslim part of the city) with five thousand votes. Plateau State has faced recurrent interreligious conflict over the last 20 years: it faced violence in the pre-electoral stage with a major concern around the Muslim-Muslim ticket. Obi’s victory may be a sign that Plateau voters challenged APC and by the way, Governor Lalong who was APC Director of Campaign.

The Gender and Election Watch (GEW) observation group has said that the election was largely peaceful
The observation group Gender and Election Watch (GEW) said Saturday's presidential and parliamentary elections were generally peaceful, although there were pockets of violence. It added that despite the commendable involvement of women as voters, voting officials and candidates, the percentage of women candidates in the elections remains low. The group has deployed 400 accredited election observers in seven states in Nigeria. GEW's Executive Director, Mufuliat Fijabi, called for stronger efforts to consolidate the progress made and ensure that Nigerians' votes really count. L'organisation a appelé les citoyens à être prudents quant aux nouvelles diffusées sur Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, entre autres, et à accéder aux informations provenant de sources crédibles. Le chef d'équipe du groupe, Ibrahima Yakubu, a également salué les efforts de journalistes, de forces de sécurité et d'organisations de jeunesse pour la stabilité et la paix dans le pays.

Network for Peace Warns Against Misinformation
As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to announce the results of the 2023 general elections, the civil society organisation, Network For Peace, has warned against misinformation and fake news on social networks. The information struggle is sensitive in the post-election context and the political turmoil it causes. The organisation called on citizens to be cautious about news on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, among others, and to access information from credible sources. The group's team leader, Ibrahima Yakubu, also commended the efforts of journalists, security forces and youth organisations for stability and peace in the country.

L'évêque anglican du diocèse d'Owo, Stephen Fagbemi, a exhorté le futur président du Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, à mettre en place des politiques prioritaires pour soulager la souffrance des Nigérians. Il a souligné la nécessité de se concentrer sur l'éducation, la sécurité, les infrastructures et la création d'emplois pour répondre aux besoins de base de la population. The Bishop of Owo Diocese, Anglican Communion, Stephen Fagbemi, has urged Nigeria's incoming president, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to put in place priority policies to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians. He stressed the need to focus on education, security, infrastructure and job creation to meet the basic needs of the people. Fagbemi emphasised the pain and suffering endured by Nigerians over the years and called for people-centred policies to bring peace, hope and solace to the people. He also emphasised the important role the church plays in supporting the vulnerable and providing support to society.

Prior to the announcement of the presidential election results, a Catholic priest, Rev. Father Alfred Ugochukwu, had urged Nigerians to be dedicated in prayer for a credible and peaceful general election and results in 2023. He had called on Christians to appoint leaders who act in the general interest. The priest said the Lenten season should be a constant reminder that earthly possessions are vanity, and that Nigerians should pray for successful elections with leaders who act as shepherds, just as Jesus sacrificed his life for humanity.
