A quelques jours des élections générales, la Conférence des Évêques du Nigeria, par l'intermédiaire de son chef, Monseigneur Kaigama encourage les Nigérians à ne pas voter pour des politiciens incompétents et corrompus dont les comportements nourrissent la situation actuelle dans le pays.
Par ailleurs, l'activiste, aujourd'hui membre de l'APC, Olawepo-Hashim, a exhorté les Nigérians à rejeter les fanatiques ethniques et religieux.
Dans un autre registre, le ministre de l'Information et de la Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, a souligné la nécessité pour les Nigérians de comprendre la beauté et le dynamisme de leur culture commune lors d'une cérémonie traditionnelle.
Au niveau de la société civile, des initiatives sont mises en œuvre pour limiter les risques de violence pendant et après la période électorale. Le CISLAC s'associe à la JNI et la CAN, les principales instances de représentations islamiques et chrétiennes du pays, pour rappeler l'importance d'élections libres et pacifiques dans l'État de Borno.
Enfin, une organisation basée dans la Région du Delta du Niger rassemble des jeunes et fait une déclaration pour lutter contre la violence, principal obstacle au développement de la zone au prise avec des groupes de bandits et des mouvements sécessionnistes.
A few days before the general elections, the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria, through its leader Archbishop Kaigama, has encouraged Nigerians to avoid voting for corrupt and shady politicians who fuel the current situation in the country.
Besides, the activist and today APC member, Olawepo-Hashim exhorted Nigerians to reject ethnic and religious fanatics.
Furterhmore, the Minister of Information & Culture has highlighted the necessity for Nigerians to understand the beauty and dynamism of the common national culture during a traditional ceremony.
According to civil society, initiatives are implemented to limit the risks of violence during and after the election period. CISLAC, together with JNI and CAN, to raise awareness about the importance of free and peaceful elections in Borno State.
Finally, an organization based in Delta Region gathers people and made a statement to struggle against violence which jeopardizes development in the area, as bandit and secesionnist groups are active.

À l'approche des prochaines élections générales, la Conférence des évêques catholiques du Nigéria (CBCN), par l'intermédiaire de son chef, l'archevêque d'Abuja, Monseigneur Ignatius Kaigama, a mis en garde les Nigérians contre l'élection de dirigeants incapables de diriger le pays en raison d'intérêts égoïstes. Monseigneur Kaigama a pointé du doigt la corruption à tous les niveaux de la société nigériane comme une menace centrale qui alimente les tensions et la violence. Il a également indiqué que les catholiques devaient prier ensemble pour des élections pacifiques, équitables et libres dans le pays. Il a rendu hommage aux derniers prêtres récemment tués. Enfin, il a fait remarquer que même si l'Église catholique était pleinement engagée pour répondre aux besoins sociaux fondamentaux, l'État ne devrait pas faillir à sa mission première à cause d’une mauvaise gouvernance.

Catholic Bishops urge Nigerians not to vote people without capacity
As general elections approach, the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) through its leader, Archbishop of Abuja Most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama, has warned Nigerians against electing leaders who are unable to lead the country because of selfish interests. The latter pointed out corruption at every level of the Nigerian society as a central threat that fuels tensions and violence. He also advised that Catholics had a great chance to pray together for peaceful, fair, and free elections in the country. He paid tribute to the last priests who were recently killed. Finally, he commented that even though the Catholic Church is fully committed in responding to basic social needs, the State should not shift away from its welfare mission because of bad governance.

Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim d'APC, a conseillé aux Nigérians d'élire le prochain président sur la base de faits réels et de bilans, et non sur des allégations et des discours de haine. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim of APC, has advised Nigerians to elect the next President based on real records and not on allegations and hate speeches. Using a marriage metaphor, he encouraged politicians to seduce citizens, not to treat them as commodities to get votes.

L’ONG CISLAC plaide pour un déroulement pacifique des élections à Borno, en partenariat avec JNI et CAN
Le Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) a organisé une session avec les sections de Borno de Jama'atu Nasir Islam (JNI) et de la Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) pour sensibiliser conjointement sur l'importance d'élections générales pacifiques dans l'État confronté à une crise sécuritaire et humanitaire depuis plus d'une dizaine d'années. La CISLAC a également formé 15 jeunes qui seront engagés en tant qu’observateur tout au long de la période électorale.

CISLAC advocates for peace during elections in Borno State with JNI and CAN
The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has set up a session with Borno chapters of Jama'atu Nasir Islam (JNI) and Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN) to commonly raise awareness about the importance of credible general elections in the State which has faced a huge humanitarian and security crisis for more than one decade. CISLAC has also trained 15 youths who will be engaged in conflict monitoring throughout the election period.

Un groupement de la Région du Delta du Niger demande aux jeunes d'éviter la confrontation et d'embrasser le dialogue
Le Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) a lancé un appel aux jeunes de la région pour favoriser le dialogue et la cohésion sociale afin de favoriser l'attractivité des États du Delta du Niger. La région est confrontée à une conflictualité importante malgré d'énormes réserves de pétrole. Ainsi, la faible redistribution encourage les groupes de bandits à recruter des jeunes pour développer des activités illégales comme les enlèvements, l'exploitation illégale du pétrole, la piraterie maritime. Par ailleurs, depuis l’Indépendance et la Guerre du Biafra (1967-1970) la région fait face à une insurrection sécessionniste menée entre autres par l’organisation Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). La confrontation entre activistes, insurgés et forces de sécurité conduit régulièrement à des violations des droits de l'homme.

A group begs Niger Delta youth to shun confrontation, embrace dialogue
The Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has appealed to youth of the region to foster dialogue and social cohesion to encourage the Niger Delta States attractiveness. The region is facing severe conflict stakes despite huge oil reserves. However, the low redistribution encourages bandit groups to recruit young people to develop illegal activities as kidnappings, illegal exploitation of oil, sea piracy, etc. Besides, since the Independence and the Biafra War (1967-1970), the region has dealt with a secessionist insurgency led among others by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The confrontation between activists, insurgents and the Security forces regularly leads to human rights abuses.

Le Ministre de l'Information et de la Culture rend hommage à la culture nigériane lors d'une cérémonie traditionnelle en l'honneur du Ministre des Ressources Pétrolières
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, le Ministre de l'Information et de la Culture du Nigéria a souligné l'importance pour les Nigérians de comprendre la beauté et le dynamisme de leur culture en tant que véritable outil d'unité et de cohésion pacifique dans le pays. Il a fait ces remarques à Abuja lors du dîner organisé en l'honneur du Ministre des Ressources Pétrolières, Timipre Sylva, à l'occasion de son intronisation comme chef traditionnel "Sarkin kudu Hausa" (émir du sud haoussa) par l'Emir de Daura (Etat de Katsina). Sylva a été récompensé pour ses résultats dans la gestion des ressources pétrolières à travers le pays. Né au Sud-Est dans l'Etat de Bayelsa où le pétrole coule à flot, ce titre délivré par une autorité traditionnelle du Nord vise à symboliser l'unité nigériane. Cette attribution ne doit pas occulter les liens entre Sylva, un influent homme politique de l'APC soutien du président Buhari, les autorités traditionnelles de Daura (ville natale du président Buhari) et les acteurs du business pétrolier, à l'approche des élections.

Minister of Information and Culture pays tribute to Nigerian Culture in a traditional ceremony in honour of the Minister of Petroleum resouces
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture in Nigeria has emphasized the importance of Nigerians to understand the beauty and dynamics of their culture as a veritable tool for unity and peaceful cohesion in the country. He made the remarks in Abuja during the dinner organised in honour of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, on his conferment with a chieftaincy title as "Sarkin kudu Hausa” (Southern Emir Hausa) by the Emir of Daura (Katsina State). Sylva has been rewarded with this title for his results managing petroleum resources throughout the country. Born in South-Eastern Bayelsa State where oil flows abundantly, the title from a traditional Northern authority aims at symbolizing Nigerian unity. This attribution must not hide the links between Sylva, an influent politician of the APC who supports President Buhari, the traditional authorities of Daura (hometown of President Buhari) and the petroleum business stakeholders, as elections are getting closer.
