À l’aune de l’élection présidentielle prévue cette année 2023, le débat sur la « congolité » des candidats présidents de la République refait surface dans l’espace médiatique congolais. Par ailleurs, les appels de  la communauté nationale et internationale faisant état de la condamnation du Rwanda de son soutien aux rebelles de M23 à l’Est du Congo ont également dominé l’actualité hebdomadaire congolaise.

In the light of the presidential election scheduled for 2023, the debate on the "Congolity" of the presidential candidates of the Republic is resurfacing in the Congolese media space.  In addition, calls  from the national and international community condemning Rwanda's support for the M23 rebels in eastern Congo also dominated the Congolese weekly news.

Élections 2023 : les débats sur la « Congolité » refont surface

À l’aune de l’élection présidentielle prévue en cette année 2023, le débat sur la « congolité » des candidats présidents de la République refait surface au niveau de l’espace médiatique congolais. Dans une tribune publiée par 7sur7.CD, Me Tshibuabua Mbuyi Dieudonné est revenu sur les dispositions constitutionnelles concernant cette question. À l’en croire, selon la Constitution congolaise, il faut d’abord être congolais d’origine pour prétendre briguer un mandat présidentiel en RDC.

Elections 2023: the debate on "Congolity" resurfaces

In the light of the presidential election scheduled for 2023, the debate on the "Congolity" of the presidential candidates of the Republic is resurfacing at the level of the Congolese media space. In an opinion piece published by 7sur7. CD, Me Tshibuabua Mbuyi Dieudonné returned to the constitutional provisions concerning this issue. According to the Congolese constitution, one must first be Congolese of origin to claim a presidential mandate in the DRC.

En perspectives de l’élection présidentielle de décembre 2023, et dans une interview accordée à Actualités.cd, Bienvenu Matumo, cadre et militant du mouvement citoyen « Lutte pour le changement » (Lucha), a affirmé que ce mouvement ne ménagera aucun effort pour appeler à un front commun de la société civile et des acteurs politiques en vue de barrer la route à Félix Tshisekedi qui souhaite se faire réélire pour un second mandat.

In view of the presidential election of December 2023, and in an interview with Actualités.cd, Bienvenu Matumo, executive and activist of the citizen movement "Struggle for Change" (Lucha), said that this movement will spare no effort to call for a common front of civil society and political actors to block the road to Felix Tshisekedi whose desire is to be re-elected for a second term.

Dans la ville de Beni, la Monusco lance la campagne santé et paix

La Mission onusienne pour la stabilisation au Congo (MONUSCO) a, à travers sa neuvième brigade constituée des militaires tanzaniens, lancé la campagne de santé et paix dans la ville de Beni. D'après la presse locale, cette campagne portée par la mission onusienne est organisée en faveur des populations de la ville de Beni, dont particulièrement les communautés environnantes des centres de santé de référence de Mbau et de Mavivi, en ville de Beni, province du Nord-Kivu.

In the city of Beni,MONUSCO launches the health and peace campaign

The UN Stabilization Mission in Congo (MONUSCO), through its ninth brigade made up of Tanzanian soldiers, launched the health and peace campaign in the city of Beni. According to the  local press, this campaign carried by the UN mission is organized in favor of the populations  of the city of Beni, including particularly the surrounding communities of the reference health centers of Mbau and Mavivi, in the city of Beni, North Kivu province. 

 
 

Les États-Unis rappellent le Rwanda de cesser tout appui au M23

D’après un article de Radio Okapi, les États-Unis d’Amérique ont réitéré le jeudi 5 janvier leur appel au Rwanda à cesser tout soutien au mouvement rebelle du M23. Reprenant le communiqué du département d’État américain, Radio Okapi publie que « Washington salue par ailleurs le rapport des experts des Nations unies, qui fait état de preuves irréfutables du soutien du Rwanda aux rebelles du M23 ».

U.S. urges RWANDA to cease support for M23

According to a report by Radio Okapi, the  United States reiterated on Thursday (January 5th) its call on Rwanda to cease all support for the M23 rebel movement.  Quoting  the US State Department's statement, Radio Okapi published that "Washington also welcomes the report of the United Nations experts, which states irrefutable evidence of Rwanda's support for the M23 rebels."

L’action politique dans les conflits intercommunautaires du Congo

La sédimentation des conflits locaux en contexte d’émergence des mouvements politico-ethniques et identitaires au sein des populations congolaises a fait l’objet d’un article publié par l’Observatoire Pharos. D’après cet article, les conflits communautaires qui sévissent dans plusieurs provinces du Congo soulèvent de plus en plus la question de la construction de l’unité nationale à l’épreuve des diversités communautaires d’une part et d’autre part, ils mettent en lumière l’enjeu géopolitique que constitue pour les acteurs politiques le contrôle des intérêts stratégiques au-dessus desquels l’accession à l’exercice du pouvoir politique est déterminante.

Political action in Congo's intercommunal conflicts

The sedimentation of local conflicts in the context of the emergence of politico-ethnic and identity movements within the Congolese population was the subject of an article published by the Pharos Observatory. According to this article, the communal conflicts raging in several provinces of Congo increasingly raise the question of building national unity in the face of community diversities on the one hand and on the other hand, they highlight the geopolitical stake for political actors of controlling strategic interests above which the accession to the exercise of political power is decisive.

Résurgence de conflit foncier entre deux chefferies communautaires de Nord-Kivu

Par le site web de Radio Okapi.net, le Réseau pour les droits de l’homme (REDHO), une ONG de la Province du Nord-Kivu a alerté l’opinion nationale de la persistance du conflit foncier, opposant les communautés vivant de la chefferie de Baswagha, opposées à celles de Batangi. À en croire Radio Okapi, ces deux communautés se disputent le contrôle du village de Mutswambi situé dans le territoire de Lubero (Nord-Kivu). C’est ainsi que le REDHO, qui s’inquiète du silence des autorités face à ce problème, appelle la commission diocésaine justice et paix du diocèse de Butembo/Beni de s’impliquer dans ce dossier pour que la paix règne dans cette partie du territoire.

Resurgence of land conflict between two community chiefdoms in North Kivu

Through the website of Radio Okapi.net, the Network for Human Rights (REDHO), an NGO in North Kivu Province, alerted  the national public to the  persistence of the land conflict, opposing  the communities living in the Baswagha chiefdom, opposed to those Batangi.   According to Radio Okapi, thetwo communities are fighting for control  of the village of Mutswambi located in the territory of Lubero (North Kivu).  Thus, REDHO, which is concerned about the silence of the authorities in the face of this problem, calls on the diocesan justice and peace commission of the diocese of Butembo / Beni to get involved in this file so that peace reigns in this part of the territory.

 
 

150 ONG appellent à la condamnation du Rwanda par le Conseil de Sécurité

Les organisations de la société civile congolaises, réunies au sein d’une coalition regroupant près de 150 ONG sous le nom de Réseau contre le terrorisme en RDC (RCT), ont appelé le Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies à sanctionner le Rwanda et l’Ouganda pour avoir violé l’embargo sur les armes pour leur soutien présumé aux rebelles du Mouvement du 23 mars (M23) et réclamé une enquête de la Cour pénale internationale (CPI) sur les crimes commis par ce groupe armé.

 Departure of pygmies reported in Kahuzi-Biega National Park

Before the authorities and customary chiefs of the province of South Kivu, the Coordinator of the initiative for the development of indigenous pygmy peoples in rural areas and representative of pygmies announced that the latter are abandoning all activities in the Kahuzi Biega National Park. According to the media Desknature, this decision of the pygmies was taken after a meeting that brought them together with the officials of the Park. According to local media, the communities surrounding this park (mainly Pygmies and Bantu) are often in constant conflict over control of World Heritage resources.
