Création d’un ministère en charge des cultes : les religieux du Nahouri saluent l’effort du gouvernement

Le Président Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba a rencontré une délégation de religieux de la province du Nahouri, alors qu’il participait à la sortie de promotion des élèves sous-officiers. Le porte-parole des religieux, le pasteur Luc Piouyiri, président de la fédération des églises et missions évangéliques (FEME) dans la  section de la province du Nahouri, a pris la parole pour féliciter, encourager et remercier le président du Faso pour la création de ce ministère. Il a rassuré le chef de l’État du soutien des religieux à travers la prière et la collaboration des fidèles. Les religieux ont plaidé pour la pérennisation et la déconcentration du ministère afin qu’ils puissent avoir un cadre de concertation entre acteurs au niveau local pour un renforcement de la cohésion sociale et de la paix.

Creation of a ministry in charge of religions: the religious of Nahouri welcome the government's initiative

President Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba met with a delegation of religious from the Nahouri province, as he participated in the graduation of the non-commissioned officers. The spokesman of the religious, Pastor Luc Piouyiri, President of the Evangelical Churches and Missions Federatoin (FEME), section of the Nahouri province, took the floor to congratulate, encourage and thank the President of Faso for the creation of this ministry. He reassured the Head of State of the support of religious people through prayer and the collaboration of the faithful. The clerics pleaded for the perpetuation and deconcentration of the ministry so that they can have a framework for consultation between actors at the local level to strengthen social cohesion and peace.

Le gouvernement accusé de mentir sur la situation des déplacés internes à Ouahigouya

Les déplacés de Thiou se trouvant à Ouahigouya dans la région du nord se sont rendus samedi à la résidence de Naba Kiba, roi de Ouahigouya, pour dénoncer ce qu’ils appellent « les mensonges du gouvernement ». Selon eux, aucun ressortissant de Thiou n’est reparti dans sa localité d’origine, contrairement aux affirmations du gouvernement.

Cet incident est arrivé après la sortie du ministre en charge de la Réconciliation nationale Yero Bolly, qui a affirmé que les actions du gouvernement ont conduit au retour progressif des populations dans des localités, dont Thiou dans le Yatenga.

The government accused of lying about the situation of IDPs in Ouahigouya

Displaced people from Thiou in Ouahigouya in the northern region went to the residence of Naba Kiba, king of Ouahigouya, on Saturday to denounce what they call "the lies of the government". According to them, none of the Thiou nationals have returned to their locality of origin, contrary to the government's assertions.

This incident occurred after the Minister in charge of national reconciliation, Yero Bolly, said that the government's actions have led to the gradual return of people to localities including Thiou in Yatenga.

Les populations de Kompienga de retour dans leurs champs

Le 15 août dernier, les populations de Kompienga, localité située dans l’Est du Burkina Faso, qui avaient subi des menaces d'hommes armés non identifiés ont été autorisées à venir cultiver dans les champs avec interdictions formelles de passer la nuit dans leurs villages.  Ils avaient été contraints de fuir leurs localités, laissant derrière eux leurs champs.

The people of Kompienga return to their fields

On 15 August, the people of Kompienga, a locality in eastern Burkina Faso, who had been threatened by unidentified armed men, were allowed to come and cultivate their fields with a formal ban on spending the night in their villages.  They were forced to flee their localities leaving their fields behind.

Deux citoyens burkinabè dénoncent les discours haineux dans une tribune

Dans le contexte de hausse de la circulation de messages appelant à l’extermination de certaines communautés, deux citoyens ont exprimé leurs avis sur la question. Le Professeur Yoporeka Somet et l’Assistant de Recherche Ollo Mathias Kambou ont affirmé dans une tribune intitulée « guérir de la haine de soi » qu’être ressortissant était différent d’être résident. Selon eux, les deux hommes auteurs des audios qui s’identifiaient comme étant des ressortissants du sud-ouest ne le sont pas en réalité.

Ils ont rappelé qu’aucun Africain ne peut (et ne doit) être considéré comme un étranger au Burkina Faso, et surtout pas les Burkinabè. Ils ont donc appelé les populations à ne pas céder aux pièges de la stigmatisation meurtrière, mais à cultiver la cohésion.

Two Burkinabe citizens denounce hate speech in a forum

The circulation of hate speech on social networks about the extermination of certain communities is on the rise, and two citizens have expressed their opinions on the issue. Professor Yoporeka Somet and Research Assistant Ollo Mathias Kambou stated in an opinion piece entitled "Curing self-hatred" that being a national is different from being a resident. According to them, the two men who made the audios and identified themselves as nationals of the South-West are not in reality.

They recalled that no African can (and should) be considered a foreigner in Burkina Faso, and especially not Burkinabe. They therefore called on the population not to yield to the traps of murderous stigmatisation, but to cultivate cohesion.

Commémoration de la Journée internationale de la jeunesse

La Journée internationale de la Jeunesse a été organisée à Tenkodogo le 16 août 2022 par la direction régionale en charge de la jeunesse. L’objectif principal de cette commémoration était de susciter la participation active et citoyenne des jeunes dans la lutte contre l’insécurité au Burkina Faso. Plusieurs jeunes issus des associations de la région du centre-est ont participé à l’évènement. Cette journée a été célébrée sous le thème « promotion du sport et autonomisation des jeunes : facteurs de résilience face aux défis sécuritaires au Burkina Faso ».

Commemoration of the International Youth Day

The International Youth Day was organised in Tenkodogo on 16 August 2022 by the regional directorate in charge of youth. The main objective of this commemoration was to encourage the active and civic participation of young people in the fight against insecurity in Burkina Faso. Several young people from groups of associations in the centre-east region participated in the event. This day was celebrated under the theme "promotion of sport and youth empowerment: resilience factors in the face of security challenges in Burkina Faso".

L’action militaire et le dialogue sont les deux piliers du gouvernement dans la lutte contre le terrorisme

Le chef du gouvernement Albert Ouédraogo a fait le point sur les actions du gouvernement le mardi 23 août 2022. À propos de la lutte contre le terrorisme, le chef de gouvernement a affirmé qu'il n’a pas l’intention de négocier avec les terroristes, mais plutôt de s'appuyer sur deux piliers, à savoir l’action militaire et le dialogue avec les terroristes pour la restauration de la paix. Il a rappelé que la plupart de ceux qui attaquent les Burkinabè sont eux-mêmes des Burkinabè. Aussi, des comités locaux de dialogue composés de personnes-ressources et de leaders communautaires que les terroristes écoutent et respectent ont été mis en place. En retour, l’État propose de garantir aux terroristes qui déposent les armes, la sécurité et leur réinsertion. Concernant les VDP, des réformes ont été adoptées pour leur encadrement et la rémunération.

Military action and dialogue are the two pillars of the government in the fight against terrorism

The Head of Government Albert Ouedraogo gave an update on the actions of the government on Tuesday 23 August 2022. On the fight against terrorism, the head of government said he has no intention of negotiating with terrorists, but rather, his action is based on two pillars namely military action and dialogue with terrorists for the restoration of peace because most of those who attack us are Burkinabè. Local dialogue committees composed of resource persons and community leaders whom the terrorists listen to and respect have been set up. In return, the state proposes to guarantee security and reintegration for terrorists who lay down their arms. Concerning the VDP, reforms have been adopted for their supervision and remuneration.

Des organisations de la société civile appellent  à rompre les accords de coopération avec la France

Les 19 et 21 août derniers, des organisations de la société civile burkinabè ont tenu des conférences de presse à Ouagadougou pour notifier au gouvernement de la transition burkinabè leur insatisfaction face à la gestion de la situation sécuritaire que connait le pays. En plus du départ de l’ambassadeur de France pour le non-respect de la souveraineté du Burkina Faso, ils ont demandé aux autorités de la transition de se défaire des accords de coopération entre les deux pays. Ils jugent ces accords insatisfaisants vu la dégradation de la situation sécuritaire. Ils appellent à se tourner vers d’autres partenaires, en l’occurrence la Russie.

Civil society organisations call to break cooperation agreements with France

On 19 and 21 August, civil society organisations in Burkina Faso held press conferences in Ouagadougou to notify the transitional government of their dissatisfaction with the management of the security situation in the country. In addition to the departure of the French ambassador for not respecting the sovereignty of Burkina Faso, they asked the transitional authorities to get rid of the cooperation agreements between the two countries, judging them to be unsatisfactory given the deterioration of the security situation, and to turn to other partners, in this case Russia.

Des femmes formées en techniques de communication en situation de conflit

Le 19 août dernier, des femmes journalistes ont mené des réflexions sur les techniques de communication pouvant contribuer à l’édification de la paix au Burkina Faso. En effet, constatant l’implication de certaines femmes dans des actes terroristes, des femmes journalistes ont organisé un cadre de réflexion de femmes afin de contribuer à la lutte contre l’enrôlement des femmes. Aussi, un système de vérification de faits a été mis en place afin de lutter contre la désinformation.

Women equipped with communication techniques in conflict situations

On 19 August, women journalists reflected on communication techniques that can contribute to building peace in Burkina Faso. In fact, in response to the involvement of some women in terrorist acts, women journalists organised a women's reflection forum to help combat the recruitment of women. Also, a fact-checking system was set up to fight against disinformation.

Dans la nuit du 18 au 19 août, une patrouille mixte, composée de militaires et de volontaires pour la défense de la patrie (VDP), a été victime d’une embuscade tendue par des individus armés non identifiés dans la région du Centre-Nord du Burkina Faso. Soutenue par la force Barkhane, la riposte a permis de neutraliser plus d’une trentaine de terroristes. Néanmoins, 4 militaires burkinabè et 5 VDP ont perdu la vie dans cette embuscade.

Une opération militaire menée par l’armée burkinabè a permis de neutraliser 5 terroristes dans la région de l’Est le 18 août.

Le 16 août 2022, un village de la commune de Yeba dans la province du Nayala situé à 10km de Toma a été visité par des HANI arrivés en binômes sur des motos aux environs de 10h. Les hommes armés ont rassemblé les hommes de la localité dans une mosquée sans les violenter. 

Dans la nuit du 15 août, une alerte de prudence sur l’axe toma-tougan dans les environs de Saran avait fait l’objet de publication sur Facebook.

During the night of 18 to 19 August, a mixed patrol of soldiers and Volunteers for the Defence of the Fatherland (VDP) was ambushed by unidentified armed individuals in the Centre-North region of Burkina Faso. Supported by the Barkhane force, the response neutralised more than thirty terrorists, although four Burkinabè soldiers and five VDPs lost their lives in the ambush.

A military operation led by the Burkinabe army neutralised five terrorists in the eastern region on 18 August.

On 16 August 2022, a village in the commune of Yeba in the province of Nayala, 10km from Toma, was visited by HANI who arrived in pairs on motorbikes at around 10am. The armed men gathered the local men in a mosque without harming them. 

During the night of 15 August, a cautionary alert on the Toma-Tougan axis in the vicinity of Saran was published on Facebook.
